Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California (September 12, 2007) – Sofia Mulanovich, (Peru) was voted the Number One Favorite Female Surfer for her third consecutive Surfer Poll at the 2007 35th Anniversary Surfer Poll and Video Awards presented by Suzuki at The Grove in Anaheim, California.
For Peru!
Mulanovich happily accepted the award, but turned thoughts to her homeland, saying “I want to dedicate this special award to my country of Peru. I feel so much love and support and I want to share that with the people of Peru who have suffered from the recent earthquake. This is for my people, we will rise again.”Mulanovich won her first Number One Favorite Female Surfer Surfer Poll Award in 2005 and in 2006 she swept the award show by winning the Surfer Poll for Number One Female Surfer, Best Documentary for Sofia: A Documentary, and Best Performance by a Female in Sofia: A Documentary.
The Surfer Poll Number One Title is determined by online and ballot voting through Surfer Magazine readers. The Surfer Poll is considered the most coveted and prestigious award since it is determined by the fans, and recognizes the surfers who stand out in the minds and hearts of surfers around the world. Mulanovich’s popularity continues to rise among her fans and peers because of her incredible humility, passion for her sport, intense talent, and love of her country of Peru.
Recently winning the fourth stop of the World Championship Tournament (WCT) in Santander - Liencres, Spain, Mulanovich is now rated third in the world with a viable opportunity to claim her second World Title. With three WCT events remaining, a very focused and determined Mulanovich is preparing for her next event in Australia, which will be held from October 9th – 14th.
Mulanovich is clearly one of the most accomplished surfers in the world; having already won a World Title, three Surfer Polls, an ESPY, Teen Choice Award, winner of the Vans Triple Crown, and US Open of Surfing and most recently, inducted into the prestigious Surfers Hall of Fame in Huntington Beach, California.
